Scottish author, environmentalist and lover of adventures in wild places.
Based in the Lake District.
Who am I?
Thanks for landing on this blog! My name is Ross Brannigan. I am an author, writer, runner, cyclist and general lover of adventures in wild places.
I am a qualified journalist and have worked for a range of outlets over the years, including The Herald and the BBC, and written for magazines such as The Scots Magazine, Trail Running and The Fellrunner. I was the Race Reporter for the 2022 Transcontinental and Trans Pyrenees races.
My first book, Running Adventures Scotland, was released in May 2022 by Vertebrate Publishing.
I currently work in the conservation sector, bringing my passion for outdoor sport and wildlife to people via communications and events.
See below ways we can work together. Get in touch to discuss fees.
How can we work together?
Writing
In need of an award-winning writer to produce well-rounded, landscape- and people-focused copy for your event, magazine or website?
You will find examples of my work throughout this blog, but you may be interested in finding more. You can see examples of my print work below.

I am absolutely passionate about adventures in wild places, and have a keen understanding of history, culture and land management (including the ecological and political underpinnings of it).
My main sports are running (trail, hill/fell), cycling (road and gravel) and hiking. I have a range of contacts and experience in each of them, as well as a wealth of knowledge on kit and technicalities.
I have competed in the Ring of Steall Skyrace, Trotternish Ridge Race, Ochil 2000s and many other Scottish hill races. In 2021, I cycled 1000km through Scotland, raising money for the John Muir Trust.
I also have a wealth of experience in marketing and communications, such as leading on social media and optimising copy for the web.
Whether it is writing a book, producing content for a tourism board, or writing about adventures, I am happy to assist.
Editing
I have been the editor-in-chief of a student newspaper – as well as a deputy editor and sub-editor – and often contribute sub-editing and proofreading to The Fellrunner.
I can help you with a second pair of eyes to get the best out of your copy, or give advice on how to steer your story to make the best impact.
Itineraries
For those with a more adventurous side, often the bog-standard travel companies are hard to fit to your needs.
If you are looking for a self-guided adventure holiday, I can help point you in the right direction.
In my book, Running Adventures Scotland, I detail routes to run in idyllic and awe-inspiring places, as well as some of the facilities around them. If you are looking for an unforgettable holiday, jam-packed with adventure, I can help you create an itinerary to make sure you can enjoy the best wild places we have to offer.
At present, I can mainly offer services relating to Scotland or the Lake District.
